The quarterfinal between Spain and Germany at the 2024 European Championship in Germany saw controversy erupt as Spanish full-back Mikel Merinos scored a late winner to send the hosts crashing out of the tournament.
The game was evenly poised throughout, with both sides having chances to win it. However, it was Spain who took the lead in the 85th minute through Alvaro Morata. Germany equalized in the 90th minute through Thomas Muller, but Merinos' goal in the 118th minute proved to be the winner.
