After graduating from law school, Thomas worked as an assistant attorney general for Missouri. He later served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Supreme Court Justice

In 1991, Thomas was nominated to the Supreme Court by President George H.W. Bush. He was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 52 to 48, becoming the second African American justice to serve on the court.

Thomas has been married to Virginia Lamp since 1987. They have no children.
